Year 8 Camp

Oh-my-gosh, I was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy to be HOME. IN CIVIZATION. On the bus trip home from camp, everyone was like. 'OMG! Traffic! Ahhh!!! FISH & CHIP!!' and any other random thing that you normally see on the street.. We were that desperate... So I will give you a quick highlight on camp, just to let you know what happened. I will try to keep it short cos I know you can't be bothered reading it and I can't be bothered writing it... So, yea. MONDAY Arrived to Wilson's Prom by bus. Quite unfair cos we only had a radio playing and the other bus got to watch Happy Feet... Dumped our stuff on this random spot and went to the beach to eat lunch. The beach was really pretty. Then we started climbing these rocks and and Viv piggy-backed me across this mini stream thing cos I didn't want to get my feet wet. (cos then sand stick to ur feet and stuff. really messy) Thanks Viv! Then we met our New Zealand OEG leader. She was okay I guess. We set up our tents and tarp. After that, we walked to this place called Mt Oberon. (Well, less than half way) So we reached this other beach and we made this contract. It was to do with 'personal goals' and 'working together' and 'including everyone' and stuff like that... It was umm interesting. We called it the 'Ms Pickering Sun Contract'. I know, most random thing ever. Then, we had to walk all the way back along the beach. There were about 30 dead birds on the ground. We counted. Then, we had to COOK DINNER in the dark. Which was really sad cos we couldn't see anything... No light except for torches. We couldn't really see what we were eating. There was no taste. But we didn't really care. Had heaps of Choc Ripples and played Mafia... Went to sleep. I tented with Rosie. TUESDAY Woke up fairly early. We found out that poor Manogna had her hair cut in the middle of the night!! Someone mean psycho idiot cut it off while everyone was asleep!!! We made breakfast, which was just cereal, powder milk and corn thins. At least they had yummy jam and honey! Then, Rosie and I were appointed the 'leaders' for that day. Rosie was the map person. We also got Brigid to call 'WAM' or 'SAM' or 'PAM'. Water, sunscreen and photo appreaciation moments. I know, weird. We sang school hymns and other random songs as we walked to pass time. Well, we were all sweaty and tired by the time we reached Squeaky Beach. It actually did squeak, but only when you stepped really hard into the sand. Then, we started the long hike back. By lunch time, we were starving. We went to this nearby grass field place and ate wraps for lunch. That was yummy. Then, it we went to this education centre and learnt about the bones of animals and the bushfires and things like that. Then we went back to the beach we were at the day before for lunch. There were these quick sand-like patches. They were soooo much fun. You could actually sink all the way to your knees! Then we got back for dinner and it was brown rice this time. Really bad. And in the dark yet again. The only thing that was okay was the dessert. Cheese cake! Though some of us ate a bit much and felt a tiny bit sick afterwards... WEDNESDAY Today was when the weather started getting bad. And it was when we had to go canoeing... How lucky. Anyway, we put on our thick ugly coloured but keeps-you-warm Japaras and walked down to the beach. The water was icy cold and we canoed down the river. We played a few games and linked canoes for a while. That was when it started drizzling, raining and finally pouring. Georgia and Brigid still jumped in the water... And got out soaking wet. After that we got to have our first shower since camp began... And... it was a 3 minute shower. And there were bugs and milipede all over the walls. Yay! (I was being sarcastic) We only had it to return our bodies to its normal temperature. We met up with the other half of our class (jess, isabel) and had lunch! We were all really happy to see each other, but it was pouring rain. We had yummy but soggy sausages for lunch. lol. We had to pack up our stuff and get on a bus to move to the next camping spot. When we got there, we were all really tired, but we had to get the tarp ready and have dinner... Which was spagetti bolognaise. It was edible. Anyway, it was a really pretty place, right next to the ocean. Then we played camouflage. It's a game our OEG leader taught us, in the dark. And we saw a fox! Then it was back to bed in the tent. THURSDAY Worst and best day in camp. It was a 15km walk. It was horrible... We got up really early, packed our stuff into these massive backpacks (including our tent and food) and started walking along the beach. It started alright, then it started raining really hard and the wind was blowing really hard behind us. Our shoulders were aching from the heavy backpacks, we were freezing cold and we had to keep walking. We had to sing random songs and even play I Spy to kill time. Yes, we were that desperate. We couldn't even know how far we had gone because there was nothing on the bare beach... Then we had to have lunch... Lunch that was topped with sand. So it was crackers and cheese and some tuna, topped with sand. Yummy... And we had it on these basins on the ground. I thought it would go on forever... It was horrible, our legs and shoulders were aching. When we FINALLY got there, everyone just fell onto the grass, got rid of the heavy packs and sat there doing nothing. We were too tired to do anything. But then we had to set up tents. Kate and Chrissy's tent flew away. haha. Played some games and had some more crackers. Had cus cus with this curry thing for dinner. Not bad. FRIDAY Weather was horrible, yet again... And this time, we were going surfing! YAY! Well, on a sunny day, yay! But on a horrible weather day... NOOO. So we changed into these wet suits. Which were really wet and cold. And walked barefoot on the rocky path, carrying massive surfboards to the beach. The surfboard was bigger than me... So by that time, our teeth were chattering like crazy and we were shivering. I had never been so cold in my life. We went surfing, and I nearly stood! I would have loved it if it weren't for the fact that we were freezing cold. So we got back, warmed ourselves with quick showers again, and had a bucket lunch! Anything tasted good at that time... After that was pack up time and then the BUS CAME! We were soo relieved when we got on. Radio and TV were dead... Again... Camp was alright. Got closer to ppl! TimTan
